Prof. Alghamdi holds a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic Engineering & Fluid Mechanics), (1993) from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, an M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal & Environmental Engineering), (1991) from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA, an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic Engineering), (1987), University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, USA and a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering, King Abdulaziz University, (1985), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Alghamdi has worked as a Visiting Scholar in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, 2001(summer), and was the Dean of Community Services and Continuing Education, at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, (2002- 2006), the General Supervisor of Self-Finance Administration, KAU, Jeddah, (2006-2009) and the Director of Water Research Center, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, (2007- 2009).
Prof. Alghamdi is currently working as a Professor of Civil Engineering at KAU , the Supervisor of Shaikh Mohammad Hussain Alamoudi Chair on Water Networks Research (2008- now) and the President of Al-Rawafed for Water and Environmental Systems Engineering. He is also the Board Chairman of the Saudi Society of Civil Engineering (SSCE) (2008-2014, 2017- now) and the General Director of University Projects (2009- 2016). Then he was appointed as the University Vice President for Projects (2016- now).
Prof. Alghamdi had worked as a part-time consultant in a number of governmental and private sector agencies: Jeddah Municipality (2011), Almuhaidib Contracting Co. (2005-2006), the Ministry of Water & Electricity (2003-2004), Makkah Region Directorate, Meteorology and Environmental Protection Agency (MEPA) (2001-2002). Water and Wastewater Authority for Makkah Region (1999-2001). Groundwater Drainage Project in Makkah (1994). Groundwater Drainage Project in Jeddah (1994), Jeddah Municipality, (1994-1996).
Prof. Alghamdi has participated in more than 20 studies and researches in water resources engineering and related areas for governmental and private sectors and published around 40 research reports and research papers in international journals and conferences.
